In further remarks on Sunday morning, former President Donald Trump thanked his supporters for their thoughts and prayers and said he credited God with helping him survive yesterday’s assassination attempt.
“Thank you all for your kindness and prayers yesterday. Only God prevented the unthinkable from happening,” Trump began the post on his Truth Social account.
Trump’s remarks appear to have been well received: Video of the shooting shows him turning his head to explain a diagram displayed on a screen to the right, appearing to turn just before gunfire rang out, with one bullet apparently grazing his right ear and saving his life.
Trump continued, “Instead of fear, we remain committed to our principles and stand in the face of evil. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those injured and our hearts are with our civilians who were killed in such a horrific manner.”
President Trump also confirmed that the Republican National Convention will go ahead as scheduled in Wisconsin this week, something a Republican National Committee official told The Blaze News last night: “I love this country with all my heart, and I love you all, and I look forward to addressing this great nation from the state of Wisconsin this week.”
No details have been released about President Trump’s health or the medical interventions that have been undertaken to treat his injuries.
