Former White House press secretary and MSNBC host Jen Psaki said Monday during the network’s coverage of the Republican National Convention that Teamsters President Sean O’Brien’s speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee came as “a bit of a shock” to Democrats.
“I think this is a little bit painful. I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I think it’s a little bit painful for the Democratic Party and the Biden campaign. You won’t find a more pro-worker president in modern history other than Joe Biden,” Psaki said.
“Sean O’Brien has been hinting at this for a long time, so this isn’t a surprise,” co-host Rachel Maddow said.
“That’s true. It’s not surprising. There’s a difference between speaking at a convention in prime time and speaking at a convention at a convenient time. I don’t think it changes the support Joe Biden has among labor unions across the country, but I think it’s fair to say Democrats would never be happy to see a labor union leader speak at a Republican convention,” Psaki said.
