Wizards’ Alex Sarr delivers 0-point NBA Summer League effort

At least Alex Sarr played well defensively.

The Wizards’ first-round pick (second overall) in this year’s draft was held scoreless for 30 minutes in Tuesday’s summer league loss to the Trail Blazers, 82-80.

Sarr’s offense was shocking, going 0-of-15 from the field, missing all seven three-pointers and missing both free throws.

During the third quarter, Sarr attempted a layup in the middle of the lane and had the ball swiped away by Donovan Clingan, the University of Connecticut kid who was selected seventh overall by Portland.

To make matters worse, Sarr lost the ball three times.

The Frenchman grabbed nine rebounds (four of them on the defensive end) and also recorded three blocks.

The performance continued a trend during Summer League for Sarr, whose offensive efficiency has been an issue through the first three games.

Sarr scored 12 points on 4-of-12 shooting in the Wizards’ win over the Hawks on Friday, but was limited to just eight points against the Rockets on Sunday.

“It’s a game of ups and downs,” Searle said. He told the Las Vegas Review-Journal “I think I’m adapting pretty well,” he said Monday about the pace of the NBA game.
