According to Wednesday’s letter, Democrats plan to formally nominate Biden as the party’s nominee for 2024 in a vote before their convention.
The letter, sent to the Democratic National Convention Rules Committee by committee co-chair Leah Daughtry and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, details plans to hold a virtual roll call of delegates, saying it is necessary to avoid potential litigation in Ohio and elsewhere. News of the vote comes as Democrats remain deeply divided over whether Biden should be the party’s nominee. The party is scheduled to hold a rules meeting for the convention on Friday.
“Conferences regarding convention operations on Friday will also include discussions regarding virtual voting elements that will be concluded prior to the in-person convention,” the letter, obtained by Fox News Digital, said.
The letter confirms that virtual voting can begin no earlier than Aug. 1. To avoid problems obtaining ballots in Ohio, it must end by Aug. 7. Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has repeatedly warned Democrats that their plan to nominate Biden at their convention on Aug. 19 violates Ohio law, which requires presidential candidates to be certified at least 90 days before Election Day.
NBC’s Chuck Todd says Biden’s continued campaign will undermine “his whole narrative.” “His ambition is paramount.”

“It is vital that we allow sufficient time to finalize candidates and place them on the national ballot, which is the primary reason for conducting virtual voting,” the letter said.
“Despite any reports, our goal is not a fast track process,” Daughtry and Walz added. “Our goal is to uphold our tradition of transparency and maintain our commitment to an effective nomination process that puts our candidates on the ballot in every state, and ultimately puts our candidates on a path to victory in November.”
The packed schedule adds pressure to a growing number of Democrats who want to pressure Biden to drop out of the race. So far, 20 Democrats have publicly called on him to drop out.
