As the debate over golf raged during the first 2024 presidential debate, author and former White House staffer Douglas MacKinnon thought about challenging former President Donald Trump to a game of golf. After the challenge was accepted, MacKinnon quickly found the experience to be nothing short of amazing.
During the June debate, the candidates traded barbs about their respective golfing prowess, with Trump citing his two championship wins as evidence of his cognitive ability.

Biden responded by falsely claiming he has a “six handicap” and that he could beat Trump on the golf course.

After the debate, Trump offered to host a golf outing between him and Biden, an invitation that, unsurprisingly, Biden declined.
With all the golf talk swirling, McKinnon decided to spend a day with the former president on the golf course to see if he could observe his athleticism on the course, and was extremely impressed with Trump’s level of expertise, stamina and excellence.
McKinnon was with Trump on the practice range at Trump’s golf course in Jupiter, Florida on July 10, and the first thing McKinnon noticed was Trump’s consistent performance off the tee.
“The former president’s driving performance was astounding – absolutely amazing. He could not only hit his drives in a stripe down the middle at will, but also curve them left and right – and he always hit them over 270 yards,” McKinnon said. I have written In an op-ed on Fox News.
McKinnon assessed Trump’s efforts as follows:
To get an idea of his driving prowess, let’s look at the average driving distances of male golfers compiled in a recent USGA and R&A survey: Golfers with handicaps between 13 and 20 average 200 yards, those in the high single to low double digits average just under 220 yards, and those with handicaps under 6 average just under 240 yards.
At 78, Trump still drives the ball as far as many of the stars of the Champions Tour and some golfers on the PGA Tour. In fact, he still regularly breaks 80 and often breaks 70 at distances of 6,700 to 6,800 yards.
“Again, politics aside, when it comes to golf, Mr. Trump is truly a genius,” McKinion added.
The author also points out that golf is a game of strategy and thought. A good golfer needs to “think his way” through the game, McKinion said. Trump is as good as any professional golfer when it comes to thinking his way through the game of golf.
“Playing golf at a consistent high level requires stamina and mental fortitude,” McKinion explained, and Donald Trump is well equipped to handle that high level of play.
It all speaks to Donald Trump’s stamina. Even at 78 years old, he still has the ability to control the stick on the course with boundless energy, proving his stamina is at the highest level.
So if the two were to play golf together, Joe Biden would undoubtedly look weaker. No wonder Biden’s staff didn’t allow Trump to try.
