Tom Brady doesn’t want Terry Owens back on the field.
On Jan. 2, 2022, wide receiver Antonio Brown infamously appeared shirtless in front of Brady and the Buccaneers during their Week 17 game against the Jets.
Owens, a Pro Football Hall of Famer, saw that and Brown’s subsequent dismissal from the team and suggested Brady fill the void, the former NFL player said on “The Bubba Dub Show” on Wednesday.
He was 48 years old and had been out of the NFL for 12 years and was out of reach.
“Tom Brady ignored me,” Owens said on the show. “I reached out to him through Randy. [Moss] And then a few others, this guy just really ignored me.”
Owens, now 50, argued that he was a worthy candidate for a superstar quarterback and said the team could have hoisted a Super Bowl trophy if they had acquired him.
That year, the Buccaneers lost to the Rams in the second round, missing out on a second consecutive championship.
But Owens was rudderless.
A five-time All-Pro selection, Brady was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2018, but even his 15,934 yards receiving, 153 touchdowns and six Pro Bowl appearances didn’t help Brady bounce back.
“You see a lack of respect,” Owens added, “but then they come in and try to act like they’re respectful.”
