March for kids, march for unity

Our Declaration of Independence states, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

Any student of history knows that our great nation has not always lived up to these ideals, but my uncle, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., got them right.

Despite real progress, woke ideologues are working hard to revive the resentments of the past and have infiltrated our school systems.

In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, he correctly identified those words as “a promissory note to every American’s inheritance,” knowing that one day all people, regardless of skin color, would be guaranteed the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. As a Christian, my uncle also recognized the biblical truth that we are all of the same blood and created in the image of God. He also knew that our country is not irreparably stained by racism, but can be saved if we unite around our common values ​​and work to lift each other up.

As an activist, public servant, mother and grandmother, I have spent my life fighting for that vision, uniting Americans of all backgrounds in love and friendship. I have led efforts to empower the marginalized and most vulnerable among us. I am proud that we have succeeded, time and time again, in many ways.

Unfortunately, despite this real progress, there are those who would take us back. Woke ideologues are working hard to revive the grudges of the past, even infiltrating our school systems. What we are witnessing now is a top-down effort to separate parents and children, and children, from their innocence.

Instead of educating our children, American schools have become indoctrination factories. Today, left-wing activists in our educational institutions are working hard to erase all the progress we have made in unifying the country and overcoming our differences.

Instead of my uncle’s dream of being judged by the content of their character and not the color of their skin, they will build a system of racial hierarchy based on resentment, teaching innocent black children that they are defined at birth by the color of their skin, that the color of their skin will determine the breadth of their ambitions. They will be taught that the white children in their classrooms are to blame for everything, simply because they were born white. Many parents are shocked to learn that the school system is spending its money to educate them. Tens of millions $1 million a year is spent on teachers telling students that the American Dream is a lie.

While students’ minds are being poisoned by anti-American ideology, they are also being deprived of quality education, which is the foundation for their success. The introduction of Marxism and radical gender education has US academic achievementMinority students are suffering the most. In Virginia, just outside the nation’s capital, 84% of black students 100 percent of students are not proficient in math, and 85 percent are not proficient in reading. In the name of “fairness,” we are setting these kids up to fail. It is hard to imagine that this system will produce another Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, or Justice Clarence Thomas. It is impossible to dream when hope is gone.

Now is the time for all Americans to come together in love and in our desire to protect our children to push back against this rising tide. We have no illusions about this country. This country is not perfect. But this country is at its best when parents are free to raise their children to love God and to love one another.

Our children, regardless of the color of their skin, deserve a fair opportunity to understand our complicated history, appreciate the heroic figures who helped move our country forward, and gain the skills to dream of a successful future.

That’s why I’m calling on everyone who cares about children to join me on the National Mall on August 31, 2024. March for ChildrenWe can put aside our political or cultural differences and unite in our love for children and our commitment to nurturing their dreams.

The time has come to remind those who seek to divide us that we are one nation under God.
