Paige Spiranac has issued a major warning to fans following a “horrifying” incident involving an impersonator.
In a post Share on Monday XThe longtime golf influencer, who has been plagued by doppelgangers in the past, detailed an incident in which she believes the impersonator “took a screenshot of a video I took with my headcover a few years ago, Photoshopped my autograph into it,” and posted the image.
“Someone sent me this photo from a false identity and it’s honestly really scary!” Spiranac began.
“… PSA, do not talk to anyone claiming to be me! I do not use chat apps and will only reply from verified social media and pass accounts. Please report and block anyone claiming to be me!”
The image in question shows a smiling Spiranac holding a note that reads “I love you” with a heart and a kiss.
Spiranac, who boasts 1 million followers on X and 4 million on Instagram, previously outlined social media red flags in a 2022 guide.
“Is this message coming from my verified account? If so, it’s me,” Spiranac said at the time.
“Is this message coming from an account in my name with zero followers? It’s not me, it’s a fake account.”
The influencer also stressed that if an account claiming to be her asks for money or gift cards, it’s a scam.
“If this person tries to talk to you on WhatsApp or Google Hangouts, that’s not me,” Spiranac said. “If they show you a badly Photoshopped passport or driver’s license or an old photo from my Instagram to prove it’s me, that’s not me.”
Spiranac’s star has continued to grow over the years.
Most recently, the former golfer appeared on one of the star-studded covers of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit’s 2024 edition, where he was profiled as a “legend.”
“To be on the cover this year alongside so many inspiring women is an indescribable feeling!” Spiranac exclaimed. “I can’t even describe how honored I am,” he said in May.
