80% of Americans Fear U.S. Is ‘Spiraling’ Out of Control Post-Assassination Attempt

A Reuters/Ipsos poll released days after the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump found that most Americans worry the country is spinning out of control.

The two-day survey, which ended voting on Tuesday, found that four in 10 people claim the country is “out of control”, with a further 86% believing “acts of violence” are “plunging the country into chaos”. Report from Axios:

In the two-day poll of 992 registered voters that closed on Tuesday, 56% said they were “very concerned” and 30% said they were “somewhat concerned” following Saturday’s shooting at a rally in Pennsylvania that left one spectator dead and two injured.

In numbers, 64% of Democrats surveyed said they were “very concerned,” along with 53% of Republicans and 54% of independents.

The poll comes ahead of what is sure to be a historic speech from Trump on the final night of the Republican National Convention, with the former president saying he has completely changed his speech following the assassination attempt that took place during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

“The speech that I was going to give on Thursday was going to be great,” Trump said. Said of Washington Examiner Earlier this week. “If this hadn’t happened, this would have been one of the greatest speeches ever.”

Originally planned to focus on Biden’s failures, the speech will reportedly focus on unity instead.

“To be honest, this speech will be very different,” he told the outlet.

“Only God prevented the unthinkable,” Mr Trump said during a triumphant march to the convention on Monday, just two days after his near-fatal attack, a claim echoed by many of his allies.

“A lot of little things come together, but you’re right, the fact that he turned his head in that moment and his life was saved, that the bullet grazed his ear, was a miracle that we all witnessed,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) told Breitbart News in an interview at the convention.

In a similar interview, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said “God” saved Trump that day.

“There’s no other explanation. He pivoted at exactly the right moment,” Jordan told Matthew Boyle, Washington bureau chief for Breitbart News.
