A 3-year-old boy with autism was found dead in the water at a Florida resort near Disney World on Thursday after wandering off in his pajamas just hours earlier, authorities said.
Rakim Akbari’s body was found after a frantic search after he disappeared from his Sheraton Vistana Resort Villas in Orlando that morning.
The boy, nicknamed Tuda, has autism and was last seen at the resort, about a 15-minute drive from Disney, wearing white pajama pants and a maroon shirt, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said they had “extreme concerns about his welfare” even before the tragic discovery in the water.
“It is with heavy hearts that we must share that our deputies found Rakim Akbari deceased in the water at the resort where he had been reported missing this morning. Our detectives are still investigating how this tragedy occurred,” the sheriff’s office posted. Social media.
