Lectures Thursday’s FIA press conferenceFernando Alonso tried his best to manage expectations for Aston Martin at the Hungarian Grand Prix, with the veteran driver giving a lengthy response explaining how the team has struggled with inconsistent challengers and how this has influenced decision-making throughout the season.
The team brought some upgrades to the Hungarian Grand Prix but early results have not been encouraging. Lance Stroll completes first practice session 9th, while Alonso dropped to 13th.
During the session, Alonso offered additional feedback but kept it brief and to the point.
“Hmm… good luck,” Alonso said when asked what advice he would give to Stroll about dealing with the balance of the upgraded car.
On top of the instability the team experienced in this year’s AMR24, Aston Martin faces a new challenge this week in the form of weather, with Hungary, like the whole of Central Europe, suffering high temperatures despite a heatwave that is gradually subsiding. In a lengthy response on Thursday, Alonso pointed out that the cooler temperatures at Silverstone during the British Grand Prix helped his performance.
But they struggled when things went wrong in Barcelona during the Spanish Grand Prix.
This could make things even more difficult for the team this weekend.
I truly wish you luck.
