‘Jeopardy!’ contestant: Show rules, Ken Jennings secrets and more

Anna Paone fulfilled a lifelong dream when she appeared as a contestant on the July 9 episode of “Jeopardy!”

A 33-year-old stay-at-home mom from Sunnyside, New York, He finished the night as runner-up to Isaac Hirsch, Customer Support Team Leader from Burbank, California.

“The show was very accommodating and accommodating to us,” she told The Post, “encouraging us to make our social media private in advance and not discuss our auditions, the shows we were appearing on, or our results.”

Paone said “Jeopardy!” tapes five episodes a day, giving contestants like her a chance to interact with others. She was not able to discuss the taping of her episode at the time.

“The show films five episodes a day, so I get to hang out in the dressing room with all the other crew members who are filming that day. It’s been great meeting people from all over the country and from all walks of life,” she said.

Paone reflected on her experiences and revealed some unexpected challenges on the show.

“The morning of the shoot, I drank a lot of coffee so I would be ready as soon as the buzzer went off, but it made me a little nervous,” she recalls. “I had to find the balance between staying alert and remembering what I’d studied without being too nervous.”

Paone also said host Ken Jennings made a good impression on the contestants on set.

“He came out during rehearsal in the morning to wish us good luck. I was surprised and excited to meet him. He takes pictures with all the contestants,” Paone told The Post.

“In my case, he asked me how old my daughter was,” she added.

Paone’s path to becoming a contestant wasn’t easy: She took the exam in 2017, when it was only open to the public at certain times, and failed.

“My husband encouraged me to take the Anytime Test since you can now take it any time,” she says. “I took it in 2022 and then I did a Zoom audition, where you type your answers but they only see your face to make sure you’re not reading anything out loud. Then I did a ‘gameplay’ audition where they pretend to call you on Zoom and ask you questions about yourself.”

When she finally got the call to appear on the show, she had to be careful not to wake her baby in excitement.

“My baby was sleeping and I didn’t want to wake him. But it was a California area code and the caller ID was Sony Pictures Studios, So I thought that was the right choice. I was really happy when they contacted me,” Paone recalled.

Although he didn’t come away with a victory, Paone treasured the overall experience.

She missed out on the win, finishing in second place. danger!

“I knew it would be a very unique and nerve-wracking experience, so I just tried to relax, have fun and live in the moment,” she told The Post.

“I was nervous, but I didn’t put too much pressure on myself, I just wanted to give it my all and have fun. It was so cool to be on set and walk through the gates and into the studio,” Paone continued.

Because Paone came in second, he did not receive the $8,599 he won in the contest. “Jeopardy!” offers a $3,000 consolation prize to the runner-up.

Hirsch came out on top, recording his fifth victory. danger!

Following Paone, chemistry professor Cathy Davis of North Manchester, Indiana, came in third place with a prize of $3,800.
