Bud Light’s transgender fiasco appears to continue to take its toll on the brand. Reports found Among beers, it has fallen from second to third place.
Bud Light has been the target of a nationwide boycott after transgender activists announced a partnership with the company to celebrate the “100 Days of Girlhood” campaign on social media.
“I’m not the kind of person who holds grudges for life.”
The brand held the top spot before the boycott caused its market share to decline. Last year, Modelo Especial overtook Bud Light to retain the top spot, but the latest report shows that Michelob Ultra has now overtaken the second spot.
Both Bud Light and Michelob Ultra are brewed by Anheuser-Busch, whose shares have seen their market capitalization fall by about 10% since the transgender controversy.
An Anheuser-Busch spokesperson responded to the report by saying only that “millions of consumers choose Bud Light every day,” adding that Bud Light “will continue to be a mainstay of our iconic portfolio.”
Some of Bud Light’s biggest critics ultimately abandoned the boycott. Kid Rock, who incited the boycott by shooting at a case of Budweiser with a gun, later said he supported the brand after realizing how many American jobs were at stake.
“I’m not one to hold grudges for life,” the musician said.
Joe Rogan also defended Bud Light while drinking beer with a guest on his popular podcast in April 2023.
The brand hired comedian Shane Gillis as a spokesperson in February to help regain its customer base.
