Gunman was allegedly able to get aerial footage of rally by drone before shooting at Trump, WSJ reports

The Wall Street Journal According to the report: The gunman who allegedly opened fire on former President Donald Trump was able to fly a drone to surveil the rally site, according to a report.

The report is the latest in a series of leaks that have placed the Secret Service under intense scrutiny over security lapses for the former president.

According to law enforcement officials who spoke to The Wall Street Journal, suspect Thomas Matthew Crooks flew the drone along a predetermined route to obtain the footage in the hours before the July 13 rally.

Authorities also said they found explosives in Crooks’ car, leading many to believe he was plotting further massacres in addition to shooting the president.

Since the shocking incident, local law enforcement and the Secret Service have been trading blame and accusing one another.

Lawmakers have sharply criticized the head of the Secret Service over a steady stream of intelligence showing repeated botched attempts to protect Trump.

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has said she has taken responsibility for the fiasco but has said she has no plans to resign.

Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee criticized the Secret Service director in response to the revelations.

“What’s so frustrating about this is we’re getting bits and pieces of information that we’re trying to verify, see what’s information and what’s rumor and try to hold the director accountable,” she said. segment “Unbelievable! This is awful!” on Fox News.
