The British Open has given fans plenty of carnage over the past two days, and despite the bad weather and high scores, there were still plenty of great players left.
With the fourth and final major approaching, it only makes sense that we present the best dressed golfers at the halfway point of the tournament, and to make this week even more special, we’ve also presented the five worst dressed.
Remember, golf fashion is subjective. There is no right answer and it all comes down to personal perspective. Some people like the worst outfits and others dislike the best outfit options.
There were plenty of less memorable costumes at Royal Troon, which didn’t really stand out as the players looked the same as always.
Players should always wear something fun, and although it is the oldest major and the traditional aspect is encouraged, there are ways to make the traditional look look stylish.
Let’s take a look at the five best and worst dressed players at the British Open.
Best Dressed Players at the British Open:
5. Viktor Hovland

Viktor Hovland finished in fifth place after failing to qualify, but his green hoodie matched well with his black pants, shoes and hat.
This color choice suits his skin tone very well and is very on trend right now.

4. Rory McIlroy

Next up was Rory McIlroy, who also missed the cut. Either way, this burgundy sweater is one of his favorites. He matched the Nike Swoosh on his shoes with the sweater, and paired it with grayish-white pants to make the sweater the centerpiece.
It’s traditional, but on trend. I can’t think of anything that could make it better, but I’d love to know what he’s planning on wearing on Saturday and Sunday.

3. Daniel Brown

Daniel Brown, the Cinderella story of the 152nd British Open, made it onto our Friday outfit list. We love his blue vest. Fluffy vests are on trend and we love how he pairs it with a blue and white striped polo shirt. The combination of two textures, fluffy and striped, looks beautiful and is a big reason why we love this choice.
His pin hat seems to match the blue, and I love the matching white shoes.

2. Justin Rose

Justin Rose is tied for second place after shooting an impressive 3-under 68 on Friday.
He’s currently a Peter Miller athlete, which suits him really well. I love how he pairs his Nike Low shoes with navy pants and a blue striped polo shirt. These shoes give him a classic look that still has a trendy feel. He’s very stylish and knows what looks good on him.

1. Billy Horschel

When Billy Horschel is in the field, it’s hard to leave him off any best-dressed list, especially when he’s a major. His navy knit polo and cream pants combo from Friday was my favorite, but his vest and patterned polo from Thursday was also great.
He wears Ralph Lauren RLX, which is a traditional brand, but knitwear is in right now, which is great. I talk to him briefly and succinctly because he’s good looking, but I wouldn’t change a thing.

The 5 worst dressed golfers at the British Open
5. Ludwig Åberg

It pains me to put Ludvig Åberg on the worst dressed list, but this Adidas polo is awful. He chose a paisley pattern and added stripes to it. The pants also don’t look good on him and look rumpled.
Oberg usually looks great, but Adidas didn’t do him any favors with this look.
Rating: 5/10
4. Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa wore an Adidas pattern on Friday, which, while not as bad as Oberg’s, was still not quite the right style: khaki pants were a bad match for this outfit.
The pants don’t go well with the all-white hat. Put some pink pants on Morikawa and he’d be on the best-dressed list, not the worst-dressed list. The bright pink would be a perfect match for the two-time major champion’s complexion.

3. Robert McIntyre

Nike likes to experiment, but the two patterns worn by Robert McIntyre in rounds 1 and 2 were completely uninspiring. Is it tropical? Is it birds? What pattern is this?
Either way, it looks ugly in a wave of dark and light colors. Nike, your confetti shirts and McIntyre shirts aren’t working, it’s time to try something else.

2. Angel Hidalgo

Puma made a huge mistake with their pullover hoodie and poor Angel Hidalgo had to wear it. It’s July, not December, and Christmas sweaters aren’t supposed to come out until after Thanksgiving.
Hidalgo’s pants don’t look good on him, the color of his hoodie doesn’t match, and it’s just ugly and no one should ever wear this.

1. Dean Burmester

The worst dressed golfer of the first two days has to be Dean Burmester, whose grey and black camo polo shirt clashes with green pants and the green LIV golf team logo, which pisses me off.
Needless to say, this camo looks messy, but maybe that’s the point. But still. Burmester didn’t look too bad in his gray pullover, but when he took it off, he was a total surprise. And not in a good way.
This outfit wasn’t my favorite, but I’m sure there are others who liked this look from Burmester.
