President Donald Trump said he had spoken to Zelensky by phone on Friday.
He told Truth Social: “President Zelensky of Ukraine and I had a very nice call today. He congratulated me on a very successful Republican National Convention and on me becoming the Republican nominee for President of the United States.”
Trump vowed to end wars and “bring peace to the world.”

He condemned the heinous assassination attempt last Saturday and said that at times like these, Americans stand united in a spirit of unity.
I thank President Zelenskyy for reaching out to me because, as the next President of the United States, I will bring peace to the world and end a war that has taken so many lives and destroyed countless innocent families. Working together, both sides can negotiate an agreement that will end the violence and pave the way for prosperity.
President Zelensky also acknowledged the call in a post on X.
I spoke with @realDonaldTrump to congratulate him on the Republican nomination and to condemn the shocking assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. I wished him strength and absolute safety in the future.
I noted America’s significant bipartisan, bicameral support for protecting our nation’s freedom and independence.
Ukraine has always been grateful for the assistance of the United States in strengthening our capabilities to combat Russian terrorism, as Russian attacks on our cities and villages continue daily.
We have agreed to meet privately with President Trump to discuss what steps need to be taken to ensure a just and truly lasting peace.
