Senator Elizabeth Warren (Democrat) Late Night with Stephen Colbert He urged the crowd on Tuesday that Republicans and Democrats should ban “assault weapons” as a show of unity.
She made it clear she wanted to ban such firearms “nationwide,” arguing that the ban was an appropriate response in the wake of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.
Warren posted on X:
Gun safety reform wasn’t mentioned at the Republican National Convention this week, but it’s an issue that Republicans and Democrats should unite around: Ban assault weapons nationwide. pic.twitter.com/zQ6NnMw2VP

Some X users responded to Warren’s post with:Better idea, ban #DemocraticPartyViolence Nationwide, and the problem will be solved immediately!”
Another wrote: “Why are you so concerned about people being able to protect themselves? Wherever you go you have armed guards following you 24/7. Don’t you think that’s a bit hypocritical?”
When Democrats talk about banning “assault weapons,” they are primarily focusing on AR-15 rifles and AK-47s. Breitbart News reported that Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Ill.), speaking at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Tuesday, defended personal ownership of AR-15 rifles and warned Democrats that allowing them to regulate them would be like “putting the fox in the henhouse.”
