Former President Donald Trump accused Biden of faking a COVID-19 diagnosis before making the historic decision to withdraw from the election, while calling it a “threat to democracy” that the oldest president in history remained in office for the remainder of his term.
“Biden has never had COVID. He is a threat to democracy!” Republican presidential candidate Posted on Truth Social The attack comes amid a series of attacks that began on Sunday.
Trump, along with many others, questioned why Biden, who announced he had COVID-19 on Wednesday, days before withdrawing from the reelection race, could remain in the Oval Office after acknowledging he would be unable to serve another four years.
“Who is running our country now?” Trump asked.“That’s not Crowded Joe. He doesn’t know where he is. If he can’t run for office he can’t govern this country!!!”
The Republican candidate then criticized Biden, saying: “He’ll wake up and forget that he dropped out of the election today!”
Trump also questioned whether Republicans should receive “compensation for wrongdoing” after spending “time and money” campaigning against Biden.
“Shouldn’t the Republican Party be compensated for wrongdoing in that everyone around Joe, including his doctors and the fake news media, knew he was incapable of running for or being president? Just asking?”
The former president also suggested that the next presidential debate, scheduled for September 10 on ABC, be broadcast on Fox News.
“My debate with the worst president in American history, the villainous Joe Biden, was scheduled to air in September on Fake News ABC, home of George Slopadopolos,” the former president wrote.
“No surprise Joe dropped out of the race, but whoever the Radical Left Democrats choose, I think the debate should be on Fox News, not biased ABC. Thanks DJT.”
That same day, the 45th president called Biden “the worst president in the history of our country” after first hearing that Biden had dropped out of the race.
What you need to know about President Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race:
“Criminal Joe Biden is not and never has been fit to run for President or serve as President!” Trump wrote.
“He’s the worst president in the history of our country. He’ll be remembered as, by far, the worst president in the history of our country.”
Following Biden’s announcement Sunday, the commander in chief said he had the “full support and approval” of Vice President Kamala Harris, who will succeed Biden as the Democratic nominee.
“Today I want to fully endorse and support Kamala to be our party’s nominee this year. Fellow Democrats, now is the time to come together and defeat Trump. Let’s do it,” Biden posted on X.
But some Democrats worry that Harris, 59, could further undermine the party’s chances of victory against former President Trump in the Nov. 5 election.
Former President Barack Obama did not endorse Harris, and in his initial statement after Biden dropped out of the party ticket, said Democrats would choose an “outstanding candidate,” without naming any names.
Biden withdrew after other Democratic leaders, including President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), privately expressed concern that the incumbent president would lead lower-ranking Democrats to a major defeat following Biden’s dismal performance in the June 27 debate.
Meanwhile, Bill and Hillary Clinton wasted no time in endorsing Harris.
“We have been through many ups and downs, but nothing has worried our country more than the threat posed by a second term for President Trump,” they said in a joint statement.
“Now is the time to support Kamala Harris and fight with all our might to get her elected. The future of America depends on it.”
Democrats have just about five weeks to put together a new candidate before the Democratic National Convention, scheduled to be held in Chicago from Aug. 19 to 22.
