The widespread IT outage was caused on Friday by a botched software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, Breitbart News reported. The issue caused disruptions to businesses and services that use Microsoft software, affecting industries including banks, airports, television stations and hotels.

Cybersecurity officials say the issues are not the result of a malicious cyberattack. The problems are due to misconfigurations or corruption in updates that cybersecurity giant CrowdStrike distributed to customers. The incident appears to only affect devices running the Windows operating system.
A Delta spokesperson told Spectrum News 1 the airline is cooperating fully with the investigation.
“We remain committed to restoring operations after a flawed Windows update from cybersecurity vendor CrowdStrike rendered IT systems around the world inoperable,” the spokesman said.
