Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff on Tuesday took issue with former President Trump’s attack on Vice President Harris, dismissing the nickname for his new White House rival.
Trump has attacked Harris since she entered the presidential race on Monday, calling her “Laughing Kamala” and “Liar Kamala.”
“Is that all he is?” Mr. Emhoff was questioned. At the event on Tuesday.
Emhoff said that since his wife joined the race, she has been campaigning to chart a clear path to victory and pave the way for America’s future.
“You heard the vice president make the case against Donald Trump yesterday. She made the case very clearly, directly and persuasively,” he said. “But she also laid out a vision for the future, a vision where there is freedom. A vision where we don’t have to talk about the issues of today in the post-Dobbs hellscape that Donald Trump has created.”
Ms Harris and Mr Trump have been neck and neck in early polls since President Biden ended his reelection campaign on Sunday. Democrats have quickly rallied around Ms Harris, who effectively clinched the party’s nomination late Monday with a majority of delegates voting for her.
Her campaign got off to a strong start and broke fundraising records, raising more than $80 million in the first 24 hours alone and millions more for other Democratic organizations.
“You can see the enthusiasm and the excitement,” Emhoff said, “you can see the money being raised and the unity of the party. It’s clear that she has garnered a broad base of support in just a day or two because she’s talking about an America where we all belong.”
