An armed Oklahoma homeowner discovered an intruder in his kitchen in the middle of the night earlier this week, and quickly used his gun to show the intruder how unwelcome he was.
Tulsa Police Department Said Officers were dispatched to a shooting at a home near 24th and Sheridan streets around 2:30 a.m. Monday. The homeowner said he and his wife were woken up by noises coming from the back door. When he went to investigate, he was surprised to find a burglar in the kitchen, police said.
Police say the homeowner is being interviewed about the incident and no charges have been filed at this time.
Police said the homeowner was unaware of the intruder and that the intruder did not have permission to be on the property.
So, Police say the homeowner fired a gun at the suspect, who then fled with items stolen from the home.
Authorities added that the injured suspect ran into a backyard where he collapsed. Police said the victims called 911 and waited for police to arrive.
Police said when officers arrived on scene they found the injured robbery suspect in the backyard, along with robbery tools and stolen items in connection to the crime.
Emergency responders took the suspect to a hospital where he is in critical condition, authorities said. Police said they would provide an update on the suspect’s condition as more information becomes available.
Police say the homeowner is being interviewed about the incident and no charges have been filed at this time.
Police added that the investigation is ongoing and will be presented to the local prosecutor’s office for charges against the intruders.
