A North Carolina teacher accused of committing felony child sex crimes against an underage student has been arrested and suspended from his teaching job.
July 1, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office after receiving a report of sexual allegations made by a teacher and student at Randleman High School.
In North Carolina, it is a first-degree felony for a teacher, administrator, coach or other school employee who is at least four years older than the minor victim to commit lewd acts against a student.
On Wednesday, 39-year-old Brittney Marie Vernon was arrested following an investigation by sheriff’s office detectives.
Vernon was charged with three felony counts of “lewd conduct” with a student and three felony counts of sexual battery with a student. If convicted on all six counts, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

North Carolina General Statutes § 14-202.4 read:
This crime is defined as knowingly or attempting to commit a lewd act with a student, or performing or attempting to perform an act on a student’s body for sexual gratification. The harm must occur while the victim is a student at the school where the defendant works, but the student does not have to be enrolled in the same school. A student is defined as someone enrolled in kindergarten or grades 1-12, and the school can be public, charter, or private. Consent is not a defense to this charge.
In North Carolina, a Class I felony is the least serious felony. Punished The sentence is three to 12 months in prison. Sexual conduct with a student is a Class G felony, punishable by eight to 31 months in prison. Vernon was booked into the Randolph County Jail and held on $75,000 unsecured bail.
The Randolph County School System WFMY Television Vernon is a career and technical education teacher at Randleman High School. He has worked for the school district since 2018 and will begin working at the high school in August 2023, according to the report.
The school district announced that Vernon has been suspended with pay. Her first court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 12 in Randolph County District Court.

Additionally, a female teacher at an “elite” New York City prep school where convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein once taught has been accused of sexually abusing students.
The special education teacher at a New Jersey middle school was arrested last month and charged with first-degree sexual assault and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Earlier this month, two former Georgia school officials were indicted on charges of sexually abusing students. The two described themselves as “together for life” friends and were involved in each other’s weddings.
