Young couple expecting a baby are swept out to sea and killed by freak wave while taking a photo

A pregnant woman and her fiance were swept out to sea by a wave and drowned after taking photos together in an area known as “Death Rocks.”

Pedro David Guadarrama Cerron, 30, and Emma Nelly Diazreal Lopez, 33, were last seen being photographed on top of rocks in the Santa Cruz area, which has an ominous nickname for its suddenly changing and powerful currents. KTVU said.

The newly engaged couple had only just learned they were expecting their first child when they were swept off the rocks near Mitchell’s Cove, leaving loved ones heartbroken. He told NBC Bay Area.

Fire officials said emergency responders found him floating face-down in the water.

“Advanced life support measures were immediately initiated and the victim was extricated aboard and escorted to port,” the Santa Cruz Fire Department (SCFD) said.

“Despite continuous resuscitation efforts, both victims succumbed to the effects of nature and were unable to be resuscitated.”

The fire department warned people to “never turn their back on the sea and be mindful of tidal conditions.”

“Certain southerly wind swells and high tides can create ‘sneaker waves’ that can catch some residents off guard,” the SCFD said in a statement.
