Austin detects first joint Chinese and Russian aircraft flight near Alaska

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said Thursday that the joint Chinese-Russian aircraft flight that occurred yesterday near Alaskan airspace was the “first time” the U.S. has detected a joint flight between the two countries. Speaking at a Pentagon press conference, Austin said the detection of Russian and Chinese aircraft was “not a surprise” because the military had been tracking and monitoring the flight extensively.
