Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas) slammed VP Harris on Sunday, saying she makes President Biden “look competent and moderate.”
“Under Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, everything went to hell. And it’s going to get even worse under Kamala Harris. You just look at her record,” Cotton said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Kamala Harris is a dangerous liberal. By comparison, Joe Biden looks like a competent moderate.”
Cotton is one of several Republicans who have attacked Harris since she announced her presidential candidacy. On Sunday, he responded to former President Trump’s recent comments urging Christians to vote, saying Christians don’t need to vote again because “everything” will be “solved” in four years.
“You don’t have to vote anymore. We’re going to figure this out in four years. We’re going to be OK. My beautiful Christian people, you don’t have to vote anymore,” Trump said Friday at an event hosted by the conservative Christian group Turning Point Action.
Cotton dismissed Trump’s comments before attacking Harris.
“I think he’s clearly joking about how bad things have been under Joe Biden and how much better things would be if we sent President Trump back to the White House and turned the country around. And the American people know that. During four years of President Trump, things were good. Prices were stable, the economy was growing, there was peace and stability in the world,” he said Sunday.
When asked for comment on Cotton’s remarks, Harris’ campaign referred The Hill to a statement about Trump’s comments during the Turning Point Action event.
“When Vice President Harris says this election is about freedom, she means it. Our democracy is under attack by a criminal, Donald Trump, who lost the last election and then sent in rioters to overturn the results. In this campaign he is promising violence if he loses, an end to the election if he wins, and abolishing the Constitution to become a dictator who will implement his dangerous Project 2025 agenda against America,” spokesman James Singer said.
“Donald Trump is taking America backwards and leading us towards a reign of hatred, chaos and fear. This November, America will unite behind Vice President Kamala Harris and stop Trump,” he added.
