Strict mask and vaccine rules could have saved as many as 250,000 lives, new study says

A new study finds that tougher COVID-19 measures could have saved hundreds of thousands of lives in states that refused to impose restrictions, but efforts to close nursing homes and schools appear to have done more harm than good. If all states had followed the restrictions implemented in Northeastern states, between 118,000 and 248,000 Americans would have survived the pandemic, according to the published findings.

Study finds hikers spreading COVID-19 to Virginia wildlife

Six wildlife species in Virginia have high infection rates with the virus that causes COVID-19. The disease likely spread from humans. The virus has been found in deer mice, Virginia opossums, raccoons, groundhogs, cottonwolves and bats, according to a study in Nature magazine. “I think the big takeaway is that this virus is everywhere,” said Amanda Goldberg of Virginia Tech’s School of Biological Sciences.
