Snoop Dogg is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Olympics

Snoop Dogg is the best thing that’s ever happened to the Olympics. I said so.

To be fair, I’ve said this at least 14 times now in various text messages to friends, out loud to my dog, or just in my mind, and while the Olympics in general are a big deal and I’m not trying to talk about the world’s best athletes competing for eternal glory, how did they manage to do this without Snoop being a part of it?

For those of you who don’t know, Snoop is basically the official mascot and ambassador for the Olympics, giving us all a taster of what it’s like to have a good time in Paris while rooting for the USA. He’s providing commentary, sitting in the stands, and running around the City of Love in the name of love, peace, and joy.

In case you are naive, don’t believe me, or are just a hater, here is some evidence.

What is this? How did it come to this? What was the production meeting like at NBC when someone proposed what was objectively the greatest idea of all time? We need answers.

Snoop is an enduring figure not just in American history but in world history, so can you imagine what this must be like for the athletes and the people who interact with him?

Remember when the U.S. won its first gold medal of the Games in the men’s 4×100 relay? Snoop was right next to Caleb Dressel’s wife, Megan, who was anchor for the team, with baby Dressel in Megan’s arms as the U.S. won.

Just imagine this kid! Not now! Like in third grade!

teacher: August, what did you bring for show and tell?

August: I was so happy when I was a baby and my mom held me in her arms and watched my dad win a gold medal at the Paris Olympics. Snoop Dogg was there too. Here’s a picture of it (possibly a hologram, TBA for future technology).

The moments involving Snoop are timeless and iconic, and they’re happening in ways we never would have expected.

Think about it, Novak Djokovic played Rafael Nadal on a Monday morning…that’s insane in itself. Snoop was there! Billie Jean King was next to him! Wow!

This isn’t a simulation. This is real life. And it’s amazing.
