On Monday’s CNN AC360 broadcast, CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers responded to CNN senior political commentator and former Trump campaign adviser David Urban’s criticism of 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris’ past left-wing positions by saying, “The Republican Party really doesn’t know what to do with Kamala Harris.” He added that regardless of who Harris chooses as her running mate, “the race is going to be reset. Harris has publicly stated that she is against a total fracking ban. That’s what most people in Pennsylvania are going to hear.”
After host Anderson Cooper pointed out that Harris has apparently changed her position and no longer supports a ban on fracking, Urban noted that Harris has taken many left-wing positions in the past, and that while 2024 Republican vice presidential nominee Sen. J.D. Vance of Ohio has acknowledged that his past criticisms of running mate Donald Trump were wrong, Harris has not done so for many of her own positions. Urban went on to say that Harris was either helping to cover up President Joe Biden’s decline or was ill-informed.
“I think what my good friend David is showing us is that the Republican Party doesn’t really know what to do with Kamala Harris,” Sellers said. “Whether she picks Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) or Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) or whoever else she picks, the race is going to be reset. She’s publicly stated that she’s against a total fracking ban. I think most people in Pennsylvania have heard that. I’ll leave it to David to talk about Pennsylvania politics, but I will say that right now, Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) is up double digits in Pennsylvania. Kamala Harris is outperforming Donald Trump in Pennsylvania. But there’s still a long way to go, and she’s still the underdog. And we don’t need to focus on the history of who Kamala Harris was. We don’t need to talk about that. We don’t need to talk about these specific things.” “You have to tell people what she can do for them, what the difference is, and why they should vote for Kamala Harris and not Donald Trump. I don’t think the Republican Party is ready for that. If they were, they wouldn’t have waited eight days to figure out how to deal with her. And yet David is throwing stuff at the wall, hoping it will work.”
