JD Vance Is ‘Bereft’ of Morality, Empathy

Whoopi Goldberg told her co-stars on ABC’s “The View” on Tuesday that Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), former President Donald Trump’s running mate, “lacks morality and empathy.”

“He wrote a song called ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ which is about growing up poor,” co-host Sunny Hostin said.

“But he’s blaming the people of Appalachia,” co-host Joy Behar said.

“He blames people for their circumstances. I grew up in poverty. I remember what it feels like to be hungry. I remember what it feels like to not have enough. I remember how it felt when my mother made my clothes. But I don’t blame people who are in that situation. He’s the type of person who asks people who don’t have boots on their backs to pull themselves up. He got out of Appalachia, but he blames people for the structural problems that keep them there. I think that’s the most despicable thing about him.”

“That’s the point: He’s written a really interesting and clever book,” Goldberg said.

“It’s about getting out of poverty,” Hostin said.

“He didn’t realize he wasn’t escaping poverty. He’s in a state of despair,” Goldberg said.

“He has no moral compass,” Hostin said.

“He lacks morals. He lacks empathy,” Goldberg said.

“The spine,” Behar replied.

“No, he has the will, it’s just not a good will,” Goldberg said.

“It’s crooked,” Behar said.

“He’s poor in that sense,” Hostin said.

“He’s a poor guy,” Goldberg said.
