Harris will rally with high-stakes running mate pick in Philadelphia next week

Vice President Kamala Harris, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, is set to hold a rally in Philadelphia next week with her long-awaited running mate, who she is expected to announce by Monday.

On Tuesday, August 6, Harris will hold her first rally with her running mate in Philadelphia during a four-day campaign tour of battleground states. She and her running mate are also scheduled to visit Michigan and Arizona.

The campaign’s decision to hold a rally in Pennsylvania on its first day suggests that Harris’ running mate could be Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, who has been mentioned as a top vice presidential candidate in recent weeks.

Shapiro, who was elected Pennsylvania Attorney General in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, gained national recognition for her investigation into sexual abuse allegations within the Catholic Church and her legal challenges to Trump administration policies, including the Muslim travel ban, the rollback of ACA contraceptive coverage and environmental deregulation.
