‘General Hospital’ star Cameron Mathison, wife Vanessa announce split after 22 years of marriage

Cameron Matheson and his wife Vanessa are separating after 22 years of marriage.

“After 22 years of marriage, we have made the difficult decision to separate,” they said in a joint statement posted to Instagram on Wednesday. “We enter this new chapter with deep love, tenderness and respect for one another, and are eternally grateful for all the wonderful years we’ve spent together.”

“Our children have always been and will always be our top priority and we will forever share in our devotion and love for them,” the statement continued.

“We remain friends and wish each other the best,” the statement concluded. “We sincerely appreciate that you respect our family’s privacy during this transition.”

The couple, who married in July 2002 after four years of dating, have two children together: son Lucas, 21, and daughter Leila, 18.

The Hallmark host and actor has also been in the news about his health. Network talk show “Home & Family” At the time, he explained to his social media followers that he had undergone an MRI scan for “intestinal issues” and doctors discovered a tumour in his right kidney.

“This is consistent with renal cell carcinoma, or kidney cancer,” Matheson said. “The good news is that it hasn’t spread to other organs. I’ve been told that my healthy lifestyle and diet are no doubt preventing the cancer from growing and spreading to other parts of my body. Doctors believe the cancer has been growing in my body for at least 10 years.”

The former “All My Children” star said he felt “very lucky” that doctors discovered it early, and thanked those around him for the “love and support.”

“The recurrence rate is very low,” Matheson told ABC News after undergoing surgery.
