Chrissy Teigen and John Legend’s son Miles has been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
The 38-year-old model and entrepreneur said: Heartfelt Instagram Posts on wednesday.
“everyone is, Photo posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I congratulate Simone [Biles] And Team USA,” she wrote alongside a photo of herself and her two older children holding up handmade signs for the gymnasts.
“Miles had his arms up, and so many of you reached out and said the most beautiful, amazing things I’ve ever seen on this stage,” Teigen continued. “You all noticed Miles’ Type 1 diabetes monitor and sent so much love and encouragement in every way possible.”
The “Cravings” cookbook author admitted that she and Legend, 45, were “learning a lot on the fly.”
“It’s a whole new and different world for us,” she wrote, adding that she had given 6-year-old Miles his first shot the night before.
In the comments section, Teigen revealed that Nick Jonas, who also has Type 1 diabetes, was “so sweet” to her son when the family happened to meet the pop star at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Type 1 diabetes is a chronic disease in which the pancreas no longer produces enough insulin, a hormone the body uses to get sugar (glucose) into cells to produce energy. According to the Mayo Clinic.
There is no cure for type 1 diabetes, but it can be managed with insulin injections, diet, and careful monitoring.
Teigen acknowledged that she realizes “things could have been a lot worse.”
“So many parents around the world are facing difficult situations I can’t even imagine,” she said. “I tell myself that every time I get that red alert on my phone.”
Teigen explained that Miles’ diabetes was discovered a few weeks ago when he was hospitalized with “a severe Shigella infection, an intestinal infection caused by bacteria in food and water.”
She and Legend have two other children, a 1-year-old daughter, Estee, and a 1-year-old son, Len. They weren’t initially worried because many of Miles’ friends at camp had also contracted the infection, but doctors soon realized something was wrong when Miles’ blood tests were done.
After further testing, Miles was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
The “Lip Sync Battle” alum also shared a page from the children’s book, “Year One with Type One,” revealing that he read the book to Miles and was particularly moved by a page in which a parent speaks about “wishing they could have done more” for their child.
Teigen concluded that her message was a thank you to her fans who had written words of support.
“It really helps me to know that a lot of people are going through the same thing and that he’s not alone.”
