Simone Biles proved she’s still the best in the world at Olympics all-around

Simone Biles was already considered one of the greatest American athletes of all time before she even competed in the women’s all-around final at the 2024 Paris Olympics. By that date, Biles had won five Olympic gold medals and 23 world championship gold medals, but at 27 years old, she was looking to prove that she could still be the best in the world at an age when most gymnasts decide to retire.

Biles famously withdrew from the individual all-around final at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, citing mental health concerns, and while she proved she is still in top form at competitions earlier this year, the Olympic stage was always going to be the ultimate test.

Biles performed brilliantly from the start, winning the individual all-around final and the sixth Olympic gold medal of her historic career. There were plenty of talented gymnasts in the event who inspired her to compete at the highest level, but in the end, no one could come close to matching Biles at her best.

Biles won the gold medal with a total score of 59.131. Brazil’s Rebecca Andrade won silver with 57.932 and America’s Suni Li won bronze with 56.465.

There were some bumps along the way to the gold medal – Biles nearly fell on the balance beam, giving the other skaters a glimmer of hope – but she regained her composure and dominated the rest of her events.

Biles secured the gold medal with her final floor exercise, the most difficult routine of the field, which she executed flawlessly to finish ahead of Andrade in the final standings.

Biles also performed flawlessly on the high-pressure balance beam routine.

Biles will be 31 by the time the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics roll around, which is old for a gymnast, but it shows that at this point Biles is capable of anything she sets her mind to.
