Star quarterback Justin Herbert has a concerning foot injury but is expected to be ready in time for next season, the Chargers announced Thursday.
The Los Angeles Chargers said in a statement that Herbert “has been diagnosed with a plantar fascia injury in his right foot,” which he sustained during a team practice.

The statement continued that the 26-year-old “will be ready in time for the start of the regular season,” with the Chargers scheduled to play against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1. according to NFL.
Herbert made his NFL debut in 2020 and has since been regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. according to New York Post (NYP).
According to a report from NYP, Herbert entered the 2023 season with 3,134 passing yards, seven interceptions and 20 touchdowns.

Herbert had started 62 consecutive games and never missed a game before injuring his finger against the Denver Broncos in December 2023. He missed the final four games of the season with the injury, according to the NFL.
According to the NFL, the Chargers have three other quarterbacks on the 90-man roster: 2023 seventh-round draft pick Max Duggan, 2019 fifth-round draft pick Easton Stick and undrafted rookie Casey Baumann.
According to the NYP report, quarterbacks will be moving up the ranks during the Chargers’ preseason, which begins on August 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Herbert received a five-year, $262.5 million contract from the Chargers ahead of the 2023 season, according to the Washington Post.
