World boxing champion Amy Broadhurst, one of the women to defeat Imane Kherif, the gender-controversial Algerian fighter at the Paris Olympics, spoke about her former opponent on Wednesday.

The Irish boxer beat Kherif in the final of the 2022 International Boxing Association (IBA) Women’s World Championships to win gold, before disqualifying Kherif from the 2023 tournament because it had been “proven” that she had “XY chromosomes,” as the IBA president said at the time.

The IBA said on Wednesday that Kheriff “has a competitive advantage over other female athletes”.

Broadhurst also weighed in.

“A lot of people have been messaging me about Imane Kherif,” she wrote in a post on X. “I personally don’t think she’s ever ‘cheated’.”

“I think it’s just the way she was born and there’s nothing she can do about it. The fact that she’s been beaten by nine different women says it all.”

On Thursday, Ms Broadhurst asked her followers how they felt about beating Mr Kheriff in 2022. Ms Broadhurst posted the footage to her social media accounts.

“If this were a man and this were 100% true I would feel disgusted at being in the ring just like myself and so many others,” Broadhurst wrote in response to the comments. “Male vs female is never acceptable, but at this point no one knows what the truth is.”
