Justin Timberlake Driver’s License Suspended, Pleads Not Guilty to Driving While Intoxicated

Pop star Justin Timberlake’s driver’s license was suspended during a hearing on Friday where he pleaded not guilty to one charge of drunk driving.

Timberlake, who is currently in Europe on his “Forget Tomorrow” world tour, appeared at a DUI hearing in Long Island, New York, remotely via video conference from Belgium on Friday, according to multiple reports.

“The fact remains that he was not intoxicated,” Timberlake’s lawyer, Edward Burke Jr., argued during the hearing. “Again, Justin Timberlake was not intoxicated. We are confident that the charges — the criminal charges — will be dismissed.”

Sag Harbor Village Judge Carl Eileis told Timberlake he had suspended the “Bye Bye Bye” singer’s New York state driver’s license after he refused to take a breathalyzer test at police headquarters following his June 18 arrest.

It is unclear how long the suspension will last, but the next hearing is scheduled for Aug. 9, at which Timberlake is not required to attend.

Judge Eileis also reprimanded Burke, known as the go-to lawyer for celebrities in tight situations, threatening to impose a gag order on the lawyer if he continues to make “irresponsible” statements that “can be perceived as an attempt to undermine a case before it even begins.”

It remains unclear which of Burke’s comments the judge was referring to.

Breitbart News reported that Timberlake was arrested and charged with DUI after he was observed driving erratically on June 18. Police also noted at the time that the “What Goes Around… Comes Around” singer’s eyes were “bloodshot and hollow,” he smelled strongly of alcohol, and he was slow to speak and had trouble concentrating.

Timberlake was also charged with running a stop sign and failing to maintain lane integrity.

The next hearing after the Aug. 9 court date is scheduled for Sept. 13, which Timberlake may have to attend. The judge also reportedly warned the “I Want You Back” singer that he may be required to appear at future hearings.
