According to media reports, a former armory on Governors Island, located in the heart of New York Harbor, will undergo a $10 million renovation that will bring new dining options and a large event space to the island.
In addition to renovating Taco Vista, a casual Mexican restaurant that has been operating on the 172-acre island since 2018, historic Building 140 will be home to Priscilla’s, a year-round cafe serving light fare and handcrafted cocktails, and Riverline, an indoor-outdoor full-service restaurant. There will be a distribution kitchen to service all three eateries and an event space offering beautiful waterfront views for weddings and corporate events, all run by the Mexican restaurant.
The project includes about $1 million in city funding and is expected to open in fall 2025.
Officials with the Governors Island Trust told amNY that this will be one of the first adaptive reuse projects on the island to run on 100% electricity.
Restoration of the 10,000-square-foot administration building, built by the U.S. Army in 1875, will include strengthening flood resistance and replacing and repairing brick and windows. New York Business Journal report.
