Hallmark Channel’s Mamie Lovelock is celebrating a milestone in her recovery after surviving a five-story fall from a hospital balcony in May.
The 20-year-old “When Calls the Heart” actress stood up and walked for the first time in a now-deleted video shared on her official Facebook page on Friday.
“Thank you surgeon. Thank you prayers. Thank you God. Mommy is finally taking her first steps,” the caption of the now-deleted video read.
As the video begins, Lovelock is seen sitting in a hospital bed with an eye patch over her left eye and aircast boots on both feet, with two family members standing behind her before joining others behind the camera.
One medical staff member stood to Lavelock’s left while the other placed the walker in front of her.
“I don’t know if we can do that yet…” Lovelock said.
“We’re here to help you,” the staff member to her right told her.
The actress then placed her hands on a walker.
“So you can get out of bed,” the same doctor advised Lovelock.
Lovelock grabbed one of the walker’s arms, placed the other on the bed and carefully stood up, as the crowd behind the camera applauded and cheered.
The TV star smiled.
“Let’s stand up,” she said.
“It feels really weird,” Labalock added. “It feels really weird.”
“How does your leg feel?” one of the medical workers asked Lovelock.
“I feel very shaky,” she replied.
“It feels like he’s wearing ski boots,” one of Lovelock’s family members said.
“Yes, it is,” she agreed.
“Could you please spread your legs a bit more?” asked the medic to her right.
“Well, ski boots are really stiff,” Ms. Lovelock said with a nervous laugh, then buckled at her knees and looked up with a smile.
“Now, put all your weight on your right side and then some on your left side,” the paramedic said.
Lovelock turned to the medic on his left and said, “I’ll hold your hand, just to be sure.”
A family member told Loverock they were speaking with her father, John, on FaceTime.
“So, first let’s get used to standing upright, since you haven’t been in that position for a while,” the staff member told her.
“Yeah, I feel like I’m going to fall backwards,” Lovelock said.
“You just need to lean on the walker, that’s what it’s for,” the medical worker told her.
Actress in “The Killing Game” She then looked at the camera and asked, “Does your dad use FaceTime?”
“Hello, Dad,” she said with a smile. Her father replied, “Hey, sweetie.”
“Look, I’m standing here with my walker,” she told him. “I’m all alone.”
Lovelock took a step forward with his left foot and then took a few more steps.
“Oh my goodness! Legs moving! Legs moving!” one family member shouted as the video ended.
Laverock fell from a balcony and was placed on life support several weeks after an unexplained “medical emergency,” according to a GoFundMe page set up by her family in May, which is now closed for donations.
At the time, her family wrote on the page: “Her body is a wreck. She has undergone two 11-hour surgeries with two doctors attending to her, one 3-hour surgery, and another surgery today. We have nothing but gratitude for the doctors and nurses who have provided her with exemplary care since May 26th.”
She added that Mamie is “enduring great pain” but is “not giving up and just carrying on.”
“All we can do is believe in daily miracles, thank everyone for their prayers, and continue to marvel at the miracle of our daughter’s story,” they shared online. “She loves her life, she loves her family, and she fights for it every day.”
Mr Lovelock had been in intensive care for two weeks before the fall and was “removed from a secure room in the hospital and escorted onto a balcony walkway from where he fell five floors”, the statement said.
“She suffered life-threatening injuries, underwent multiple major surgeries and is currently on life support,” her mother, Nicole Lockman, and stepfather, Rob Compton, previously said.
According to GoFundMe, Mamie was initially admitted to a hospital in Winnipeg, Canada, for a “medical emergency” on May 11. “Nicole arrived at the hospital in time and was able to save Mamie’s life.”
“Mammy has since been transferred to hospital here in Vancouver. Her expected recovery is unknown at this time, but she is alive and showing signs of improvement.”
Two weeks later, her family wrote that they were “devastated and shocked at this extremely difficult time” and that Mamie was now on “life support”.
In June, Lockman told the Los Angeles Times that Lovelock had “woke up” and was “doing fine.”
“I just hope this is a turning point and she gets through this. I couldn’t be more pleased that people have reached out and cared. This story will be told,” Lockman said.
On July 9, Lovelock celebrated her 20th birthday at the hospital. She posted a photo of a balloon rainbow made by artist Evelyn Milanes, writing, “Thank you Evelyn. Your hard work and love have created such beautiful balloon art.”
“My miracle birthday… somewhere over the rainbow,” she added.
The next day, Rockman shared a photo of him embracing Lovelock on his birthday.
“Mummy rolled over on her stomach, then pulled herself up and clung to me and I knew in that moment we would be hugging for the first time,” she wrote in the caption. “Thank you Rob for capturing this moment.”
