Seine river water quality leads to mixed triathlon swimming training cancelation

Organizers of the Paris Olympics have cancelled swimming practice for Sunday’s mixed relay triathlon event due to poor water quality in the Seine River following recent heavy rains.

The decision was taken late on Saturday after tests following rainfall on July 31 and August 1 showed that the water quality did not meet required standards.

The mixed relay competition is scheduled for Monday.

“We expect the weather to improve over the next few hours, but it is unlikely to be sufficient to carry out the swimming familiarisation training planned for tomorrow,” organisers said in a statement.
