Welcome to Playing Through’s morning ritual, Golf Talk Today.
The second week of the Paris 2024 Olympics has arrived and the women’s competition has begun. The women will be competing at Le Golf National from August 8th to 11th, the same venue where the men competed last week.
60 women from 33 countries will compete in the 72-hole stroke play event.
World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler won gold for the U.S. team in the men’s competition. Will it be the same for Nelly Korda? She won gold at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, but can the world’s No. 1 women’s athlete defend her title?
So, grab some coffee, grab some breakfast, and let’s explore the talents of the three women on the U.S. National Team.

Nelly Korda
Nelly Korda, the No. 1 ranked women’s golfer in the world, is the top choice for Team USA. Korda has been in great form this year. She has won five consecutive tournaments and is playing in her sixth LPGA event out of seven this season.
The 26-year-old won her second career major title at the Chevron Championship.
But then her form cooled off, as Korda missed the cut in three straight tournaments, including the U.S. Women’s Open and the Ladies PGA Championship.
She played in 12 tournaments this year. In those 12 starts, she has six wins, seven top 10s and eight top 25s. Her worst result was a tie for 26th at the Amundi Evian Championship.
Korda is currently ranked number one on the LPGA money list, with $3,006,871 in earnings this season.

Lilia Vu
After a stellar 2023 season, world No. 2 Lilia Bu has struggled with injuries, forcing her to withdraw from multiple tournaments and ultimately taking time to rest her back. The 26-year-old took more than two months off before winning the Major LPGA Classic in her first tournament back.
Vu has played 11 times this season, with one runner-up finish, three top 10s and six top 25s. While Korda has reclaimed the top spot in the rankings, Vu has been performing well since her return, never finishing lower than 26th. Her most recent appearance was at the CPKC Women’s Open, where she placed 12th.

Rose Chan
This young prodigy will be competing in her first Olympic Games in Paris this year. Rose Chan has made quite a name for herself since turning professional last year.
She won her first professional LPGA Tour appearance at the Mizuho Americas Open and followed that up with her second career win earlier this season.
The 21-year-old Chan has one win, four top 10s and five top 25s in 13 starts. She was unable to defend her title after falling ill in New Jersey and withdrew from the tournament. She missed the cut in both the Chevron Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open majors this season.
Zhang is fresh off a tied-sixth place finish at the CPKC Women’s Open, her best finish since winning the Cognizant Founders Cup in May, and is now looking to make her mark at the Olympics.
