Second gentleman Doug Emhoff’s ex-wife has defended him, claiming they split for “a variety of reasons” after he admitted to cheating on her during their marriage more than 15 years ago.
Kirsten Emhoff voiced support for her ex-husband, who is now married to Vice President Kamala Harris, after news of his affair broke over the weekend.
“Doug and I decided to end our marriage many years ago for a variety of reasons,” she said. Kerstin Emhoff told The Washington Post. In a statement Saturday, he said: “He has been a wonderful father to our children and remains a great friend to me. I am truly proud of the warm, supportive blended family that Doug, Kamala and I have created together.”
Emhoff had reportedly had an affair with Najen Naylor, a blonde nanny who was a teacher at the private school his two children attended, which resulted in him conceiving a child.

Emhoff admitted to the affair. In a statement to CNN It did not mention Ms Naylor by name or address her alleged pregnancy.
“Kirsten and I went through difficult times during my first marriage because of my actions. I took responsibility for it and in the years since then we have worked hard as a family to get through it and bounce back stronger,” he said.
Sources told CNN that the affair was disclosed to the presidential selection committee four years before President Biden selected Harris as his running mate in the 2020 presidential election.
The person also said that Emhoff had told Harris about the affair long before they were married, and that Emhoff’s relationship with Naylor had ended before he started dating Harris.

Kirsten and Doug, 59, were married from 1992 to 2008, before marrying Harris, also 59, in 2014.
He and his ex-wife, a film producer, divorced in 2009 after she found out about his affair.
Records show the couple cited “irreconcilable differences” in their divorce filing.
The couple have a son, Cole, 29, and a daughter, Ella, 25, who is a model and fashion designer.
Despite their separation, the couple continue to co-parent their children together with Harris.
Kirsten Emhoff also showed her support for Harris’ presidential bid, sharing the Time magazine cover on her Instagram account and writing, “LFG!!! It’s time for Democrats to put aside our differences and find common ground. We can’t give up and let DJT get the better of us. We’re all in this together!! Kamala Harris for President!”
She also said former President Donald Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, Sexist comments calling her a “childless cat girl”[y].”
“Kamala has been raising her children with Doug and me for over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers.” she told CNN..
“She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective and always there for us,” she continued. “I love our blended family and am grateful to have her there.”
