Delta is Hanging The airline said Monday it would suspend all flights from New York City to Tel Aviv for the rest of August amid growing concerns about a regional conflict between Israel and Iran.
The announcement extends a suspension that began last week after the airline said it had suspended sales of all flights between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Tel Aviv this month.
Customers holding tickets for affected flights will be issued travel waivers, and Delta said flights with partners Air France and El Al Israel Airlines will remain available.
“Delta continues to monitor the evolving security environment, evaluates its operations based on security guidance and intelligence reports, and will provide updates as necessary,” the company said in a statement.
United Airlines similarly suspended flights to Tel Aviv “until further notice” last week, citing “safety reasons.”
Israel’s attacks on Tehran and Beirut that killed two top Hamas leaders have raised fears that it could escalate into all-out war in Lebanon, where Hezbollah fighters are based. Tehran has also vowed to retaliate, and the U.S. military has deployed large forces to the region.
