‘I wanted to make my voice heard’

Although Ahn Se-yeon won the gold medal, she was unable to truly celebrate her achievement due to the actions of the Korea Badminton Federation.

The superstar outshone her native South Korea on the podium after beating China’s He Bingjiao 21-13, 21-16 at the badminton championships on Monday.

“I think after this moment it might be difficult for me to stay on the national team,” Seyon said after the win. This was reported by news.au.com.

Se-yeon accused her national federation of “neglecting” her and claimed she received a lack of support from the federation after she injured her knee during the Asian Games in October last year.

“I was very disappointed. [the association] “You really can’t get over that moment while you’re injured,” Seyon told reporters.

“After the Asian Games, I was initially told I would need two to six weeks of rehabilitation before I could return, but as the pain did not subside I visited another clinic after the tour finals in December,” Seyong wrote.

“A new diagnosis has revealed that the partial tear of the patellar tendon will not improve immediately and that I will need to continue managing my pain and maintaining my injury until the Olympics.”

Seyon added, “I had to focus on adapting to the pain and preparing for the Olympics, rather than on immediate competition results.”


2024 Paris Olympics


Her radical choice to denounce the federation after being crowned the new Olympic champion has prompted South Korea’s Ministry of Sports to investigate the allegations.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Sports insisted it would “obtain the exact facts as soon as the Olympics are over” and “based on that finding, consider the need for appropriate remedial measures.”

The statement also said it would “examine whether other sports could also improve player management.”

In an interview with South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency on Tuesday, Se Young criticized the federation for “neglecting training to prevent injuries and failing to take appropriate measures when injuries did occur.”

“I found motivation in my anger as I set goals and pursued my dreams,” Seyoung told Yonhap News (news.au.com).

“I wanted my voice to be heard. In a way, my dream was [to have] “Voice.”
