A new poll shows that Vice President Harris has nearly doubled President Biden’s lead over former President Trump in New York state since launching her campaign last month.
of New poll from the University of Siena The survey found that Harris leads Biden by 14 points among New York voters, with 53 percent of them supporting her, while Trump trails in his home state with 39 percent. Harris’ lead is larger than the 8-point lead Biden had over Trump when the poll was conducted in late June.
The poll also showed Ms Harris leading the former president in the six-way race that included third-party and independent candidates, with 49% of support, compared with 39% for Mr Trump and 7% for independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The poll also found that Harris has the support of 86% of New York Democrats, up from 75% who backed Biden in June, and she leads among black voters with 81% support, compared to Trump’s 11%.
“Things have changed since our last Siena College poll, and the changes in the leading Democratic candidates, while not dramatic, have had a noticeable impact on the race,” Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said in a statement.
The poll also found that Harris has widened the gender gap in support since replacing Biden as the top candidate, and now leads Trump among New York women by 34 percentage points. 18-point lead In June, Trump’s support grew among women.
Greenberg noted that it wasn’t young voters that boosted Harris’ support.
“Interestingly, it’s not younger voters who are driving the change. Among voters under 35, Harris leads 49-34%, down slightly from Biden’s 51-32% lead in June. Her biggest gains come among voters ages 35-54, who supported Trump over Biden 44-41% in June, but now support her 54-40%,” he said.
The poll was conducted among 1,199 New York state voters between July 28 and August 1 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
