Ranking the Top 10 women golfers competing for gold at the 2024 Olympics

Are you ready?

The women’s golf competition at the 2024 Olympics gets underway this week. Last week the men competed for gold, silver and bronze at Le Golf National, producing some of the best competition for golf fans this season.

For many of the 60 women competing, it will be their first time starting on the track.

Team USA has a secret weapon in Rose Chan, who won the 2022 World Amateur Team Championship on this golf course, and that experience will be of great benefit to her this week.

Le Golf National will be played as a par 72 course, rather than the men’s version of par 71. The par 4 18th hole will be changed to a 477-yard par 5.

Scheffler’s total score of 19 under par is a good indication of how the women’s scores will fare this week.

Here are our power rankings of the 10 women who could win gold.

10. Lynn Grant, Sweden

Lynn Grant won the Scandinavian Mixed earlier this year and tied for ninth at the KMPG Women’s PGA Championship. She has three top 10 finishes in her past four starts.

But one of the biggest reasons she made it onto this list is because she ranks fifth in strokes gained off the tee.

9. Attaya Thitikul (Thailand)

Thailand’s Attaya Thitikul started the season well, finishing in the top eight in four consecutive tournaments, but her form has since declined. The 21-year-old won the Dow Championship at the end of June, but failed to qualify for the Amundi Evian Championship the following week.

Either way, she’s fourth on the green in regulation, which will mean a lot at Le Golf National.

8. Brooke Henderson, Canada

One of the fan favorites, Brooke Henderson, finished T8 in her final LPGA appearance, the CPKC Women’s Open. She’s inside the top 20 in strokes gained off the tee, but her greens in regulation are impressive, ranking her fifth. It’s only a matter of time before Henderson picks up, so don’t take her for granted.

7. Pei-Yun Qian, Chinese Taipei

Pei-Yuen Chen has been extremely consistent. She placed seventh at the Amundi Evian Championship. The golfer from Chinese Taipei will be hitting more greens and more fairways, two key statistics that will help her get on the podium.

6. Hannah Green, Australia

Hannah Green is one of the big talks for 2024. She won the HSBC Women’s World Championship and the JM Eagle LA Championship and has risen from 29th to 6th in the world rankings.

Green finished second at the Mizuho Americas Open. Since her runner-up finish in New Jersey, highlights include a tie for 16th at the U.S. Women’s Open and a tie for 14th at the CPKC Women’s Open. Her game is well suited to this course, so everything could go right this week.

2024 Olympics, Céline Boutier

5. Celine Bouthier, France

French player Céline Boutier had a great year last year, but is not doing so well in 2024. She has only one top 15 finish in her last 10 starts. The Olympics in Paris will motivate her to play well. If she can get her putter in good shape, Boutier will be in the running to win.

4. Patty Tabatatanakit, Thailand

Patty Tabtanakit has already won this season at the Honda LPGA Thailand. Since that win, Tabtanakit has finished in the top 25 six times, most recently with a third-place finish at the Amundi Evian Championship.

She is the birdie queen, ranked second in birdie or better scores, but Tabatatanakit will need to harness the power of her tee shots to win.

2024 Olympics, Rose Chan

3. Rose Chan, USA

Rose Chan won her second career LPGA event at the Cognizant Founders Cup earlier this year, but since that win her only top 10 finish came two weeks ago at the CPKC Women’s Open (T6).

A win at Le Golf National will give her an advantage this week and her approach of finishing second in strokes gained could lead to a podium finish.

2024 Olympics, Nelly Korda

2. Nelly Korda, USA

Nelly Korda is widely expected to be the favorite to win her second gold medal. However, after winning six of her seven appearances, Korda has had a downturn in her form. Korda missed the cut three consecutive times before finishing tied for sixth at the Amundi Evian Championship. She also ranks second in strokes gained off the tee and on the green.

It’s very hard to give up on her because when she’s in good form she’s hard to beat, and she’s in second place because she’s not in good form, but if she can stay consistent she could win her seventh race this weekend.

2024 Olympics, Lilia Vu

1. Lilia Vu (USA)

Team USA’s Lilia Vu takes the top spot in the power rankings. She took more than two months off to rest her back earlier this season, but has since returned with better than T26 results.

Vu won the Major LPGA Classic in her first start in two months. The 26-year-old finished tied for second. Vu will need to stay healthy, but this course will suit her well and allow her to get her act together.
