WATCH: Caitlyn Jenner’s take on controversial olympic boxer

Algerian boxer Imane Kherif has sparked a fierce online debate over whether she is biologically male or female. According to mainstream media and IOC reports, Kherif is not transgender, but was born female with a DSD that causes the development of XY chromosomes. Some argue that it is impossible to have XY chromosomes and be anything other than biologically male.

Caitlyn Jenner, a pioneer in the transgender movement, spoke about the controversy in a recent interview with Fox.

“First of all, intersex issues are about 0.001 percent of the population. It’s a very small percentage of the population,” Jenner said, adding that “the media is very sensitive about this.”

“I think it was totally wrong of the Olympic Committee to allow her to compete… The IOC didn’t do their job to begin with and then the media picked up on this and made a big fuss about it, but shame on the IOC for not keeping women’s sport fair and shame on the IOC for not keeping women’s sport safe,” Jenner continued, noting that “this is a safety issue.”
