New iOS and MacOS updates will allow Apple users to eliminate unwanted pop-ups and other unsightly intrusions while using Safari. Just one site at a time. MacRumors report.
According to the site, a feature called “Distraction Control” that will be available in macOS Sequoia and iOS 18 will allow users to remove intrusive panels that interrupt their swipe time, such as newsletter sign-up prompts and sign-in windows.
Distraction controls, which are currently said to be available in a beta update, will apparently need to be enabled every time you visit a new page. Gizmodo.
This feature can be toggled on by selecting the page icon next to the URL bar in Safari and clicking “Hide distracting items.”
When launched, an animation plays that makes it look like unwanted debris is evaporating onto the screen, according to the posted video. MacRumors.
The feature reportedly blocks ads in the process improving the user experience, but is not intended as a permanent ad blocker.
With distraction control, the elimination process begins again when the page is refreshed or the user returns by following a link.
According to MacRumors , the settings don’t transfer to other devices, so users will need to enable the feature on each piece of technology.
Additionally, users can also select “Show hidden items” to restore pop-ups, ads, and various other media that were hidden.
The official release of iOS 18, expected within the next few months, is being hailed as Apple’s biggest yet.
But some critics have raised concerns about some features, such as the ability to lock or hide certain apps on the iPhone home screen.
This is said to make it much easier to cheat on your partner using dating and hookup apps, as they are effectively invisible to everyone but the user.
