White Sox snap 21-game losing streak with win over A’s

OAKLAND, Calif. — Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run home run and the Chicago White Sox beat the Oakland Athletics 5-1 on Tuesday night, ending an American League record-tying 21-game losing streak.

Chicago lost 5-1 to the Athletics on Monday, tying its longest losing streak since the Baltimore Orioles lost 21 straight games in 1988.

The National League record since 1900 is held by the 1961 Philadelphia Phillies, who lost 23 straight games.

The worst record in major league baseball was held by the 1889 Louisville Colonels, an American Association team that lost 26 straight games during a 27-111 season.

Chicago’s last win was in the opener of a doubleheader against Minnesota on July 10 and now falls to 28-88.

The White Sox have been held to one or no runs 32 times this season.
