A burned body was found in a shopping cart on a sidewalk in Yonkers, New York, and more bodies were later reported to have been found inside an apartment in the Bronx.
Yonkers police posted on social media that the victim was found on the sidewalk near the Oak Street Bridge over the Bronx River Parkway shortly before 2 a.m. Monday.
The Westchester County Department of Public Safety and the Mount Vernon Fire Department responded to the fire and discovered the body after the blaze was extinguished.
Upon arriving at the scene, Yonkers police discovered the body inside a shopping cart. Yonkers police then opened a death investigation and later ruled the case a homicide. Despite being in the city of Yonkers, police determined that the location where the body was found was simply a “dumping area.”

The investigation has been handed over to the New York City Police Department and the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office.
The victim was apparently killed in her Rogers Place apartment in the Longwood section of the Bronx, and most of her body was placed in a shopping cart and driven a few stops north to Mount Vernon West at the Melrose Metro-North station, where it was left on the Oak Street Bridge in Yonkers, where it was set on fire, authorities said. According to the outlet, investigators used surveillance footage to track the suspects’ path back to the Bronx, where they boarded a train to Yonkers. The NYPD executed a search warrant at the apartment on Monday night and found body parts, including hands and teeth.
