Marvel actress Connie Chiume dead at 72

Renowned South African actress and star of “Black Panther,” Connie Chiume, has passed away, Fox News Digital has confirmed.

She died in Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg after a “period of illness”, according to a statement from her family. She was 72 years old.

Her son, Nonjello Kiume, said: Newsroom Africa His mother was originally admitted to hospital for a “medical procedure” and was “recovering well” before her death, he said.

“She leaves us with a wonderful legacy, and I think that she’s not just there for her children and her family. “The Chiume family would like to sincerely thank all of the messages of support and condolences they have received at this difficult time as they try to process the loss of their mother, Connie,” the family said in a statement.

“Her children would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors and nursing staff who provided her with excellent care during her hospital stay.”

The family said all information regarding the memorial service and funeral will be shared on her social media as the family makes arrangements.

Chiume is best known for her role as Zawavari in the 2018 Marvel film “Black Panther.” She also appeared in the film’s sequel, “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” due for release in 2022. She was preceded in death by the film’s star, Chadwick Boseman, who died of colon cancer in August 2020.

Kiume has appeared in several South African series and films, as well as starring in the 2020 musical “Black Is King,” which was co-written, produced and directed by Beyoncé.
